Khris Francis at MaineStreet Live

Some people say funny things, but I say things funny.
                                              -Don Rickles

He is Ogunquit's funny man, Khris Francis. This year's show is called "Last Man Standing". Khris Francis' show is actually the longest running one man comedy show in New England.

Khris is not only a wonderful storyteller and comic but also an amazing singer, and musician. Khris can also improvise, compose and sing a song upon request.  It is amazing to see.

His show is a mix of stand up comedy and sit down naughty-ness with an array of spicy language. His sold out shows are not for the faint of heart, and do contain adult content. Think gay Don Rickles.

Many of Khris' stories and come from his Italian heritage growing up in southern California. Khris still spends winters in southern California and tours in the winter when he is not in Ogunquit Maine.

I saw Khris' act  on opening night of the new MaineStreet Live. This new addition to the MaineStreet complex features a cabaret room with a bar, stage, VIP area and splendid roof deck that overlooks the busy Ogunquit Square. Khris works the room and actually makes patrons participate is some of his routines. This lucky guy showed everyone what he is made of, and of course what his abs are made of!  Warning: There are no sacred cows.

Autumn pleasures-Views of Ogunquit from 10/22/2010

Autumn is the American season. In Europe the leaves turn yellow or brown, and fall. Here they take fire on the trees and hang there flaming.
                                                                              - Archibald MacLeish

Here are some random shots of Ogunquit from today, Friday late afternoon. Its a chilly day with highs only in the 40's ( 6 to 8 Celsius), and a cool breeze. Its officially the start of OgunquitFEST weekend (an autumnal festival with various events).

 During OgunquitFest, Scarecrows are everywhere!

Ogunquit's wooden drawbrige at Perkins Cove, with a blustry westerly breeze.....
The sign leads the way to miles of sandy beaches!

Another sign greets you entering Ogunquit on US Route One from Wells!
In the heart of Ogunquit is "world famous" MaineStreet, nightclub, cabaret bar, dance bar and video bar. Theme for Halloween is A Dirty Sexy Disney.

Pumkins are aligned on Shore Road....

Miss Coco Peru

....A Drag Queen in her mid 40's is exactly what Hollywood is looking for...
                                                                                               -Coco Peru

Ogunquit is known as the entertainment capital for southern Maine. With venues like: The Front Porch with The Judy Show; and the Oxygen Bar, with The Khris Francis show. This weekend  MaineStreet Nightclub hosted the legendary Miss Coco Peru.
Miss Peru at Ogunquit Beach Inn after a show.

Miss Coco Peru is an entertainer tour de force. Coco Peru hails from Los Angeles, and travels throughout the globe with her show.  Miss Peru spent the weekend in Ogunquit before leaving for Sweden, where she is appearing in Stockholm's comedy Festival. In 2009 Coco Peru was presented with GLAAD media award for her performances. Many will remember Coco Peru in the Gay film cult favorites: Trick, and Girls will be Girls.  Coco Peru has also worked with theatre greats like: Bea Arthur, Lily Tomlin and Charles Busch.

Coco Peru's show is a combination of music/storytelling and comedy.  Coco Peru explores: the trials and tribulations of an adolescent boy in the Bronx; New York city angst; love in the 21st century and alien abductions in her Ogunquit show. Miss Peru's theatre presence is larger than life. It is unfair to label  Coco Peru as just a "drag queen".  Coco Peru is a talented entertainer who has a strong stage presence, and can capture the audience and take them to another place.

Patriots' Day Weekend

Happy Patriots' Day Weekend! Many people from outside of New England do not know what this civic Monday holiday is all about. Its a holiday that is celebrated in Maine and Massachusetts.

My earliest memory of Patriots Day was being at my Grandfather's house and watching  the re-enactment of Paul Revere's ride down Massachusetts Avenue in Arlington, MA

Patriots' commemorates the battle of Lexington and Concord, and the "Midnight Ride of Paul Revere" written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (born in Portland Maine, when it was part of Mass):

Listen my children and you shall hear
Of the midnight ride of Paul Revere,
On the eighteenth of April, in Seventy-five;
Hardly a man is now alive
Who remembers that famous day and year.

He said to his friend, "If the British march
By land or sea from the town to-night,
Hang a lantern aloft in the belfry arch
Of the North Church tower as a signal light,--
One if by land, and two if by sea;
And I on the opposite shore will be,
Ready to ride and spread the alarm
Through every Middlesex village and farm,
For the country folk to be up and to arm."

Patriots' Day signifies the start of the season here in Ogunquit Maine. It’s a traditional time when restaurants and business' re-open. MaineStreet Video and Dance traditionally opens the dance floor for the season. Patriots Day is also the running of the Boston Marathon. Ogunquit also has its own Paul Revere's ride, a Fife and Drum concert, and various Chamber of Commerce activities.
